1. What is the difference between Service Breaking Capacity (Ics) and Ultimate Breaking Capacity (Icu)?
Ultimate Breaking Capacity (Icu) defines the maximum short-circuit current a circuit breaker can successfully interrupt, though the unit may require inspection or replacement afterward. Service Breaking Capacity (Ics) is the short-circuit current the breaker can interrupt and still remain operational. Acereare Electric MCCBs are designed with Ics = 100% Icu ratios in most configurations to ensure system reliability even after a fault occurs.
2. How does high-altitude deployment affect a circuit breaker's operational ratings?
At altitudes exceeding 2000 meters, the thinner air reduces heat dissipation efficiency and lowers the dielectric breakdown voltage. Consequently, breakers must be derated for both operational voltage and rated current. In high-altitude projects, engineers should apply derating coefficients to prevent premature tripping and ensure long-term insulation reliability.
3. Why are specialized DC breakers necessary for solar PV systems compared to standard AC units?
DC current does not have a natural zero-crossing point, which makes interrupting a DC arc much more difficult than an AC arc.
