What is the performance difference between Thermal-Magnetic and Electronic trip units?
Thermal-Magnetic trip units utilize a bimetallic strip and an electromagnetic coil to protect against overloads and short circuits. While highly reliable and cost-effective, they are sensitive to ambient temperature fluctuations. Electronic trip units use current transformers (CTs) and a microprocessor to measure current waveforms. They offer highly adjustable settings (LSIG), thermal memory, and are immune to external temperature shifts, making them ideal for precise coordination in complex networks.
Why is ambient temperature compensation critical for Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB)?
Since thermal trip elements rely on internal temperature rise to bend a bimetallic strip, extreme ambient environments (like switchboards reaching 55°C or dropping to -40°C) will shift the breaker’s trip curve. Acereare Electric uses specialized polymers, insulation barriers, and offers custom calibration for higher ambient thresholds to prevent premature tripping in high-temperature environments.
How does high altitude (>2000m) affect the amp rating and performance of switchgear?
At altitudes exceeding 2000 meters, the thinner air reduces heat dissipation and lowers the dielectric breakdown voltage. This requires derating the rated operational voltage (Ue) and rated continuous current (In). Designers should consult high-altitude derating tables to select an appropriately oversized circuit breaker frame.
What protection functionalities does an LSIG trip unit cover?
LSIG stands for: (L) Long-time delay overload protection, which shields conductors from overheating; (S) Short-time delay short-circuit protection, allowing controlled delay for downstream coordination; (I) Instantaneous short-circuit protection, isolating massive fault currents immediately; and (G) Ground-fault protection, protecting systems from phase-to-ground faults to prevent electrical fires and equipment damage.
What is the standard procedure for customizing molds with Acereare Electric?
